We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team at BC Hydro. As a key member of our Distribution Planning department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable and efficient supply of electricity to our customers.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze and interpret technical studies to identify distribution system and feeder requirements, and coordinate with other departments to execute capital plans.
- Perform planning and system impact studies in response to the integration of Distributed Energy Resources with BC Hydro's Distribution System.
- Provide broad engineering expertise in distribution planning initiatives, projects, and Distributed Energy Resource Technologies, and apply knowledge and experience in multi-discipline engineering principles to address complex system needs.
- Review the work of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and adherence to technical requirements, standards, and accepted engineering practice.
- Manage projects of some complexity, including planning and managing resources, and coordinating work to ensure that commitments are met.
- Represent BC Hydro in discussions with external stakeholders on technical issues, build trust and strong external relationships, and successfully resolve issues in consideration of business objectives, and reputational and financial impacts.
- May assign work and give instructions, advice, and technical guidance to other engineers and technical support staff.
- Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues to resolve issues of concern, and build influential relationships with key management teams and departments across BC Hydro.
- A recognized Electrical Engineering degree and registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive electrical engineering experience focused in the area of planning, engineering, and design of distribution systems and integration of Distributed Energy Resources.
- Ability to analyze and resolve challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable independence, and understand and appreciate implications of costs, operability, and safety.
- Demonstrated organizational, collaboration, project management skills, including cost control and project administration.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to write reports and senior management briefings, make presentations to technical and non-technical audiences, and liaise with peers and experts in BC Hydro and externally.
- Demonstrated or recognized expertise in distribution system planning, distributed energy resource integration, and engineering for electric utility.
