Job Title: Technician/Power Engineer

Job Summary:

BCIT's School of Energy is seeking a regular, full-time Technician/Power Engineer to support the maintenance and repair of educational equipment, as well as provide technical assistance to students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:Workshop Supervision:
  • Conduct regular maintenance on Power Engineering educational equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and Institute policies.
  • Develop and implement procedures for ordering and receiving parts, supplies, and equipment, and maintain an inventory of relevant tools and supplies.
  • Provide technical assistance to students and staff, and coordinate the setup and demonstration of shop equipment or instructional aids.
Safety Related:
  • Promote and ensure compliance with safe work practice standards established by regulatory bodies, and provide guidance to staff and students on safe work procedures.
  • Perform regular checks to ensure all equipment functions safely prior to student exposure, and ensure compliance with WHMIS and hazardous materials storage regulations.
Toolroom Related Duties:
  • Develop and implement procedures for ordering and receiving parts, supplies, and equipment, and maintain an inventory of relevant tools and supplies.
  • Review work orders for accuracy, and coordinate and monitor the work of contractors to ensure adherence to established standards.
Qualifications:Education and Experience:
  • Completion of a 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate, and two (2) years general trades experience and up to four (4) years current relevant experience in the building trades/maintenance industry.
  • Ability to assess blueprints and make recommendations for specific trade requirements, and proven ability to trouble shoot and resolve related issues.
Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and the Internet.
Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to provide high levels of customer service.
Administrative Skills:
  • Strong operational and administrative skills, with a proven ability to develop, document, and implement policies and procedures.
