Speech Language Pathologist - Community Stroke Rehabilitation
Permanent Full-Time Position
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a crucial role in delivering direct clinical services, including assessment and therapeutic interventions for outpatients (and occasionally inpatients) at Mackenzie Health who require speech-language pathology support throughout their recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments, provide treatment, offer consultations, and educate patients regarding communication disorders such as aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, and cognitive-communication impairments.
- Manage dysphagia through screening, assessment, treatment, and educational initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary colleagues across various professional domains.
- Prior experience in stroke rehabilitation within a hospital setting is advantageous.
Required Qualifications
- A Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
- A valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in conducting clinical swallowing evaluations.
- Experience with video-fluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS).
- Ability to deliver clinical education through in-services and patient/family education.
- Strong independent work ethic, self-direction, and capability to lead clinical inter-professional teams.
- Advanced conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage daily tasks and priorities.
- Effective communication abilities, fostering engagement and reflective listening.
- Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to change, setting priorities, and problem-solving.
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues across various disciplines.
- Experience supervising students is a plus.
- A strong attendance record.
- Commitment to patient and staff safety policies that promote a secure and inclusive environment.
- Capability to fulfill the essential duties of the role.
- Empathetic approach in interactions with others.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Membership in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) is preferred.
- Membership in OSLA or SAC is an asset.
- A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist is preferred.
- Experience working with stroke patients.
- Background in rehabilitation settings is beneficial.
- Previous experience in acute care environments is a plus.
