Position Overview

The role of an American Sign Language (ASL) Educator focuses on imparting knowledge to students in the domain of ASL, specifically catering to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. This position encompasses the creation of educational programs, preparation of instructional materials, evaluation of student achievements, maintenance of educational facilities, and adherence to institutional guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver instruction through diverse methodologies including lectures, practical demonstrations, and collaborative projects.
  • Design and develop educational curricula and instructional resources.
  • Conduct assessments and provide constructive feedback on student performance.
  • Offer guidance and support to learners throughout their educational journey.
  • Ensure the upkeep of classroom environments and instructional equipment.
  • Engage in departmental meetings and contribute to community events.
  • Execute additional related tasks as required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifications.
  • Proficiency in visual-gestural communication.
  • Ability to teach ASL to adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Certification at ASLPI Level 4.5.
  • Provincial ASL Instructor Certificate (BC) or its equivalent.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Experience in teaching ASL to newcomers.
  • ASLICE certification or an equivalent credential.
  • Familiarity with community resources and issues affecting the Deaf community is preferred.
