Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our Environmental Health Services (EHS) team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice and consultation to staff and managers on environmental health matters.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, protocols, processes, and systems for EHS.
  • Conduct audits to monitor and evaluate applications of legislation, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Prepare audit reports and recommend changes to improve practice, systems, or processes.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for staff, students, and external partners.
  • Support Fraser Health staff and managers in progressive enforcement activities, including providing consultation and recommendations on the use of relevant legislation and enforcement tools.
  • Develop funding proposals and communicate with external funding agencies to clarify/obtain information on funding criteria.
  • Maintain an inventory of and review departmental guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols to identify gaps in areas of accuracy, applicability, and completeness.
  • Represent Fraser Health in EHS matters by attending meetings and participating on external/internal committees.
  • Form and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with federal, provincial, regional, local government, and non-governmental organizations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health.
  • Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) granted by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
  • Eligible for registration with the BC Branch of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
  • Five years' recent related experience in environmental health.
  • Valid Class V BC Driver's License and possession of a personal vehicle.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers, including word-processing, databases management, spreadsheets, and graphic presentation software applications.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of research methodology and analysis.
  • Ability to provide leadership to project teams, staff, and students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including conducting group presentations and working in a team environment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to plan, implement, organize, and problem solve, and manage projects.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable public health legislation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of environmental health science.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
