Job Summary

The Cancer Genetics Clinic at Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counselor to join our team. As a Genetic Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing family risk assessment, diagnosis, management, education, and support to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient histories and review relevant data to determine the risk of hereditary cancer syndromes and eligibility for genetic testing.
  • Develop and maintain the regional cancer genetics care pathway.
  • Liaise with laboratory staff to ensure accurate and timely genetic testing results.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families on genetic testing and cancer risk.
  • Collaborate with medical oncologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree from an accredited Genetic Counseling Program.
  • American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) and/or Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling - Conseil Canadien de Conseil Génétique (CBGC - CCCG) certified and/or board eligible.
  • Previous experience in a cancer genetics clinic preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the issues surrounding screening for genetic susceptibility to disease.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer software such as MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and electronic health record systems.
