Job Summary:

NorLand Limited, a leading civil contractor, is seeking a skilled Excavation Specialist to join our team for exciting infrastructure projects in Western Canada. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, ensuring safety, and delivering high-quality work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, dozers, and loaders, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Conduct daily pre-inspection machinery safety checks and service.
  • Participate in safe work planning and communicate effectively with the ground field crew.
  • Report on excavation progress and any potential issues to Field Supervisors.
  • Work with Field Supervisors and Crew to perform various tasks, including bulk and detailed excavations, trenching, backfill, and servicing utility installations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of working experience required on 20-30 ton size excavators.
  • Primary experience on an excavator, but ability to operate backhoe, dozer, and/or loader an asset.
  • Achieves maximum production with full attention to crew safety and the prevention of incidents.
  • Understands and completes daily equipment service requirements and inspection log.
  • Participates in safe work planning and communicates effectively.
  • Has experience with various shoring types and excavations.
  • Has experience working with pipe crews and is comfortable working in tight urban environments and near traffic.
  • Has experience digging around live utilities.
  • Can cut slope, trench, or grade to finish tolerance.
  • Experience with GPS systems an asset.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to identify mechanical/safety issues with equipment.
