Position Overview

The Rehabilitation Specialist plays a vital role within the Nova Scotia Health Authority, working under the guidance of the Program Manager of Rehabilitation & Supportive Care Services. This position involves collaborating with clients, their families, and caregivers to enhance, restore, or maintain optimal functional abilities in self-care, productivity, and leisure activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop tailored treatment plans in partnership with clients.
  • Deliver effective therapy services in various settings, including hospitals, clients' homes, and community environments.
  • Manage a diverse caseload independently, utilizing clinical judgment to prioritize client needs.
  • Provide education and support to clients, families, and caregivers to foster understanding and engagement in the therapeutic process.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated care and support for clients.
  • Contribute to the training and supervision of Occupational Therapy Assistants and students in related health disciplines.
  • Adhere to the policies and professional standards set forth by the Nova Scotia College of Occupational Therapists.

Qualifications

We invite candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current licensure with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia.
  • Experience in acute care settings is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with orthopedic, burns, and plastics patient populations is preferred.
  • Skills in custom splinting and fabrication are considered an asset.
  • Experience in critical care environments is beneficial.
  • Ability to foster the integration of Occupational Therapy within inter-professional teams.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the capacity to facilitate educational initiatives.
  • Commitment to a culture of respect, safety, and ethical practice.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, demonstrating effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of the service.
  • Competency in additional languages is an asset, with preference for French.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position with a long-term commitment.
  • Approximately 75 hours bi-weekly.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is competitive, and successful candidates may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
