Job Summary

Interior Health Authority is seeking a skilled Clinical Information Specialist to support the development of systems that enhance clinical practice. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Program Directors, Managers, and Clinical Practice Professionals to design, implement, and evaluate computerized clinical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and identify clinical practice needs, advocating for solutions that align with corporate and provincial priorities.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to analysts on clinical practice issues related to technology application.
  • Participate in decision-making and policy development concerning healthcare technology identification, development, acquisition, use, and evaluation.
  • Support the development of the electronic health record by identifying opportunities for electronic health information capture and distribution.
  • Collaborate with end-users to reduce dependence on paper-based health information.
  • Contribute to project and capital budgets for the IMIT department.
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate computerized patient care systems, including database development, dictionary creation, and customer-defined screen and report development.
  • Provide ongoing support for clinical users of operational computer applications, determining related information needs and implementing system changes.
  • Liaise with healthcare agencies, educational institutions, and other provider groups to promote technology use in improving healthcare delivery systems.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs to meet the learning needs of computer users in patient care services.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in nursing clinical practice, other clinical disciplines, and healthcare informatics, as well as new developments in information technology.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical practices and initiatives at the provincial and federal levels related to standards, management, privacy, and legal issues of patient information.
