Position Overview:

In alignment with the established vision and values of our organization, the Clinical Equipment Specialist will travel across the region to deliver a range of technical services associated with the Biomedical Engineering Program. Responsibilities include assessing new medical devices, ensuring the operational safety of equipment, conducting repairs, performing routine inspections and tests, maintaining accurate records, and offering educational support and technical guidance to clinical personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct repairs and calibrations of biomedical devices either in the workshop or within patient care settings, ensuring clinical staff and patients are present during the process. After-hours and on-call services will be provided as necessary.
  2. Execute scheduled safety and performance evaluations, tests, and preventive maintenance on biomedical devices throughout the organization.
  3. Carry out incoming inspections of biomedical equipment to verify compliance with relevant standards and departmental policies.
  4. Maintain detailed reports and records regarding labor, travel, and parts utilized in service and support activities, adhering to departmental guidelines.
  5. Travel to various healthcare facilities to perform biomedical equipment repairs and preventive maintenance as directed.
  6. Manage supply levels and procure service parts for repairs or inventory by completing purchase and inventory requisitions, identifying suitable vendors, and sourcing parts in accordance with purchasing protocols.
  7. Provide technical insights at the point of care to clinical, paramedical, and technical staff concerning the safety, operation, maintenance, procurement, installation, and disposal of biomedical devices.
  8. Conduct technical, performance, and safety assessments on new biomedical equipment under consideration for acquisition.
  9. Engage in planning for biomedical equipment replacement by supplying information on outdated equipment or those with high failure rates.
  10. Implement corrective measures as mandated by Device Hazard Alerts and Recalls, identifying risks associated with medical equipment in clinical environments to ensure patient and staff safety. Notify relevant management and leadership as necessary.
  11. Perform equipment performance and safety evaluations on devices involved in incident investigations.
  12. Attend designated training courses and participate in additional educational opportunities to maintain a high level of expertise in new products and service areas as requested by the employer.
  13. Collaborate with and oversee manufacturers' service personnel during installation and warranty work to ensure adherence to facility policies and provincial regulations.
  14. Undertake other related duties as required.
