Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Strategic Communications to join our team at Brightshores. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications plans that align with our corporate goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies to engage with stakeholders, government, and community
  • Lead and produce reactive and crisis management materials to reduce/mitigate risk to the organization
  • Produce communication materials to further the relations and engagement of stakeholders
  • Coach and mentor a team of communications professionals to develop an engaged and supported team
  • Develop and deliver effective written and verbal communication to all levels of staff, board of directors, consultants, governments, community groups, medical, general public, and other contacts
  • Advocate and support a culture of patient safety and demonstrate an understanding of how communications contribute to overall patient safety
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Brightshores' 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies

Requirements

  • University Degree in communications/public relations
  • 5-10 years of relevant and progressive experience in a leadership role
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic communications plans in a complex public organization, preferably in the health care industry
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Health structure and model for service delivery, key priorities of the province, and current initiatives
  • Exceptional political acumen and ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Expert knowledge in communication platforms, including social and digital
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain positive media relations
  • Proactive mindset to produce communication materials to further the relations and engagement of stakeholders
  • Coaching and mentoring skills to develop an engaged and supported team
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize highly complex tasks with critical deadlines
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills and experience
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
  • Adherence to Brightshores' 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies
