Compensation: $33.04 per hour
Role Summary:
The Occupational Instructor is responsible for conducting task assessments, providing skills training, overseeing job maintenance, and developing employment strategies for clients participating in the Employment Options Program. This role involves working closely with the Rehabilitation Officer and other referral sources to achieve clients' vocational objectives, while collaborating with the Supervisor and Team Werks Co-op Inc. to fulfill the operational and business goals of the St. Joseph's Care Group's supported Social Enterprise.
Required Qualifications:
Educational Background:
- Completion of post-secondary education in social services, rehabilitation, or a related discipline, or a minimum of five years of experience in providing employment support or vocational rehabilitation services.
- Familiarity with local vocational programs and services available in Northwestern Ontario, offered by various governmental and non-profit organizations.
- Understanding of the Principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery philosophy.
- Knowledge of current vocational rehabilitation theories and principles, particularly for individuals with serious mental health conditions.
- Solid grasp of basic business principles and/or experience in a business setting.
- Awareness of major mental health disorders, their symptoms, treatment options, and their impact on social and vocational functioning.
- Understanding of psychotropic medications and their potential side effects, especially regarding vocational or educational capabilities.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficient in assessment, interviewing, instruction, training, and job coaching.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities, with sound judgment and excellent interpersonal skills, including tact and sensitivity towards clients and their families.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, with the ability to learn and utilize Infomed, Meditech, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of safe and proper operation of industrial equipment.
- Valid Class G Driver's License with appropriate insurance.
- Standard First Aid certification.
Employment Conditions:
This position is contingent upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) as required, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
Employment offers to external candidates are conditional upon providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination or valid medical exemption prior to the effective date of employment. Failure to provide this documentation will result in the rescindment of the job offer.
