Job Summary:

The Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) seeks a highly skilled and experienced Director of Major Gifts to lead our Washington, DC major gifts program and cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this key role will work closely with senior staff members to identify and cultivate new major donors, manage gift pledges, and develop and evaluate programs that align with strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive major gifts strategy to secure six and seven-figure gifts.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, including identifying and soliciting new prospects.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospects and donors, ensuring timely and effective communication and stewardship.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Board of Directors to develop and implement fundraising strategies.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and reports to track progress and ensure accountability.
  • Supervise and support a full-time major gifts program manager.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience in development, with a strong record of securing major gifts.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement successful fundraising strategies and manage complex donor relationships.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Strong understanding of the non-profit community and the ability to navigate complex relationships with donors, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
