We are excited to announce a unique opportunity within our Corporate Risk division, located in Toronto, Ontario. We are seeking a Senior Property Underwriting Specialist to spearhead our efforts in expanding our business presence while aligning with our sustainability goals.

As a Senior Property Underwriting Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to manage new business initiatives and structure corresponding agreements, with a strong emphasis on property underwriting for large and multinational commercial property accounts. You will work closely with internal teams to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities, providing exceptional technical guidance to brokers and clients to ensure accurate risk pricing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite account transactions by understanding client needs and risk profiles, ensuring benefits from both revenue and profitability perspectives.
  • Establish and nurture relationships across various functions and with external partners to deliver outstanding service to brokers and clients.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of Complex Risk and Property opportunities.
  • Maintain portfolio quality and profitability, referring risks outside your authority to specialists.
  • Identify and address concerns related to loss ratios, risk trends, or discrepancies, implementing appropriate remediation strategies.
  • Enhance your knowledge of all Information Systems/Programs within Commercial Insurance.
  • Engage in Quality Reviews and audits as necessary.
  • Support the maintenance of a compliant underwriting environment in accordance with established guidelines and regulations.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a minimum of 7 years of experience in the insurance sector as a commercial lines property underwriter, along with:

  • A post-secondary degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in underwriting Property risks.
  • CIP/FCIP designation is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of property underwriting, pricing, and products across various segments.
  • Familiarity with other functional areas such as Claims, Risk Management, and Accounting.
  • A strong understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, and relevant workflow procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, RTM, and other commercial systems.
  • Ability to engage professionally to foster long-term relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Capability to collaborate with internal partners to enhance the broker and customer experience.
  • Self-motivation and a proactive approach to pursuing business opportunities.
  • Strong listening skills to effectively address broker and customer needs.
