About the Role & TeamWe're seeking an experienced Data Engineer who is an expert in Java and/or Scala technologies. You'll collaborate closely with various business units, product management, architecture, operations, and quality engineering teams, as well as third-party software vendors. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and a strong team player, driven to deliver results and continuous improvements. They are passionate about their work and deeply committed to eBay and its community.
What You Will Accomplish- Design, develop, and support worldwide projects throughout all phases of the software development process.
- Lead the team as the technical and agile lead, managing all technical and day-to-day operations.
- Work with engineers and multi-functional teams like Product Management, Release Engineering, Quality Engineering, Architecture, Operations, etc., to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs. These solutions should prioritize functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and alignment with development goals and principles.
- Lead product initiatives, recommend improvements, mentor, and guide junior team members.
- Identify project risks and effectively mitigate them.
- Share release management duties on feature rollouts.
- A Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, along with 10+ years of professional experience.
- Strong computer science fundamentals—algorithms, data structures, programming paradigms, design/architectural patterns.
- Solid foundation in modern programming languages (our current stack includes Scala/Java, but it's not a strict requirement).
- Experience with relational/NoSQL/columnar databases.
- Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to influence a multi-functional team to achieve results.
