Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of estimators in preparing detailed estimates for mechanical construction projects, including industrial, commercial, government, and institutional markets.
  2. Develop and implement tendering procedures, analyze tenders, and recommend award decisions.
  3. Establish and maintain cost monitoring and reporting systems, ensuring accurate and timely financial data.
  4. Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects to ensure seamless project execution.
  5. Conduct site reviews, tender reviews, and project closings, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  6. Oversee the maintenance of supplier directories, ensuring up-to-date information and effective communication.
  7. Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to prepare economic feasibility studies and cost estimates.
  8. Maintain industry presence to ensure continuity of work and identify new business opportunities.
  9. Stay up-to-date with new technologies and construction methods, ensuring estimates reflect the latest industry standards.
  10. Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  11. Travel to various sites or clients to undertake estimating and project-related activities.

Education and Work Experience Requirements

Graduate of a Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with relevant work experience, or a qualified tradesperson in the mechanical field with several years of experience and previous estimating experience.

15-20 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects of a $10M value or higher.

Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements

Advanced knowledge and understanding of:

  • Contract management and administration.
  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Trade fluency (plumbing, hydronic, HVAC).
  • Organization and time management.
  • Self-driven leadership abilities.
  • P.Eng. or CET would be considered an asset.
  • Project management experience is an asset.

Advanced user of:

  • MS applications (Word, Excel, and Projects).
  • Autobid Mechanical (QuickPen).
  • Accubid Change Order Pro.
