Opportunity Overview:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Forensic Assessment & Outpatient Services, the Psychologist II plays a vital role within the interdisciplinary team at Alberta Health Services. This position is dedicated to delivering forensic mental health services, which encompass individual therapy, assessments, and comprehensive court documentation, particularly concerning family violence cases. Additionally, the role includes support for general referrals to the Forensic Assessment & Outpatient Services (FAOS).
Key Responsibilities:
As a Psychologist II, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Conducting thorough assessments and preparing court reports for mandated clients, focusing on family violence and intimate partner violence evaluations.
- Providing individual therapy and group counseling, along with engaging in data collection and program development.
- Offering guidance and support to peer clinicians and assisting with general referrals.
- Collaborating with families, physicians, community organizations, and other relevant services to identify patient needs.
- Serving as an educator for patients and their families, while also facilitating student learning opportunities.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical supervision, service planning, and research activities as required.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in Psychology from a recognized program relevant to the practice setting. Registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) is required or must be eligible for registration.
Additional Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of three years of experience in Adult Addiction and Mental Health.
- At least one year of experience in an ambulatory or community clinic environment.
- Proficiency in individual and family therapy techniques.
- Strong case management skills and the ability to work within strict timelines.
- Experience in quality improvement and program development.
- Expertise in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) modalities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:
- A comprehensive understanding of Addiction and Mental Health programs within the Calgary Zone.
- Additional training in forensic psychology and family violence treatment methodologies.
- Experience in preparing court reports and conducting data evaluation.
This position is expected to transition to Recovery Alberta in the future, aligning with ongoing service enhancements.
