Calgary, Alberta, Canada Alberta Health Services Full time

Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager of Forensic Assessment & Outpatient Services, the Psychologist II is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team at Alberta Health Services. This role involves delivering forensic mental health services, which encompass individual therapy, comprehensive assessments, and the preparation of court reports, particularly focusing on family violence referrals, while also supporting general referrals to the service. The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct thorough assessments and generate court reports for mandated clients referred to the service, with a specific emphasis on family violence and intimate partner violence evaluations. Additionally, the role includes providing individual therapy, facilitating group sessions, engaging in data collection, and contributing to program development and evaluation. Support for general referrals, guidance, and assistance to peer clinicians may also be required.

The Psychologist operates within an outpatient multi-disciplinary team, taking charge of the assessment and treatment of patients in forensic addiction and mental health programs. Effective communication with referral sources, families, physicians, community agencies, and other related services is essential in identifying the needs of patients. The Psychologist also plays a crucial role in educating patients and their families while fostering student learning opportunities. Furthermore, the position entails supporting quality improvement initiatives for the program through process and workflow development, engaging in clinical supervision, participating in service planning, and contributing to research activities as needed. The Psychologist will work independently within established guidelines, adhering to program and professional standards.

Description:

As a Psychologist II, you will deliver advanced clinical services, which include psychological assessments, diagnoses, and interventions. You will provide consultation and education to the interprofessional team as well as to patients and their families. This advanced-level psychology position allows you to collaborate with teams to enhance and inform services for patients facing complex and multi-dimensional medical, psychological, interpersonal, environmental, and instrumental challenges. You will be expected to consult, collaborate, and implement initiatives to ensure that practices are evidence-based and align with psychology standards of practice, ethical codes, policies, legislation, and regulations.

In this role, you will lead, facilitate, and participate in the development of programs, policies, and procedures, as well as engage in service planning, staff development, quality improvement, evaluation, and research activities as identified by the service area needs. You may also provide supervision to doctoral-level psychology residents, master's level interns, provisional psychologists, psychometrists, and other team members.

Required Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in Psychology from a Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) or American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Active registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) is also necessary.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of three years of experience in Adult Addiction and Mental Health is essential, along with at least one year of experience in an ambulatory and/or community clinic setting. Proficiency in individual and family therapy, effective case management, and the ability to work under tight deadlines are crucial. The role requires strong teamwork skills, a commitment to quality improvement, and program development expertise. Familiarity with both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) modalities is expected. The position demands the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

A demonstrated understanding of all Addiction and Mental Health programs within the Calgary Zone and the required framework for Outpatient Service Re-design is preferred. Additional training in forensic psychology, family violence treatment modalities, and assessment tools is advantageous. Experience in preparing court reports and engaging in data collection and evaluation will be beneficial.
