About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and physically fit individual to join our team as a Fishboat Deckhand at Young Guns Fisheries Limited. As a key member of our crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fishing vessels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Trip Preparations: Prepare nets, lines, and other fishing tackle to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Fishing Operations: Operate fishing gear to catch fish and other marine life, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Catch Handling: Clean, sort, and pack fish in ice, and stow the catch in the hold.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Repair nets, splice ropes, and maintain fishing gear and other deck equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Clean deck surfaces and the fish hold to maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
Work Environment

As a Fishboat Deckhand, you will be working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. You will be exposed to various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, and will be required to handle heavy loads.

Requirements
  • Physical Demands: You must be physically fit and able to stand for extended periods, handle heavy loads, and perform tasks that require bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Weight Handling: You will be required to lift and handle weights up to 45 kg (100 lbs).
  • Language: You must be proficient in English, as it is the primary language used on board our vessels.
