Opportunity Overview
The Senior Manager, Data Engineering - Digital and Client leads a team of Senior and Junior Data Engineers responsible for optimizing and maintaining the reliability of our data models. This role requires strong development skills, well-rounded communication skills to mentor/lead less senior staff, and a strategic, forward-thinking mindset to develop, support, and deliver on RBC Insurance's Data Strategy.
Key Responsibilities- Automate processes, identify opportunities for growth, and build a center of expertise related to Digital and Client data.
- Develop detailed plans and accurate estimates for completion of build, system testing, and implementation phases of projects.
- Provide consulting services on new initiatives, exploring alternative options to recommend technology solutions and designs that meet business needs and project deliverables.
- Assess, research, and analyze business and system needs to recommend technology solutions and designs that meet business needs and project deliverables.
- Work with internal partners to identify emerging trends, learn new technologies, and best practices to develop a high-performing, diverse team.
- Lead a team of Data Engineers responsible for building and maintaining data models and reporting data.
- Support and champion the development and execution of RBC Insurance Data Strategy.
- Set direction and approach for the Data Engineering - Digital and Client team.
- Provide leadership, regular coaching, documented performance management, and contribute to practice and talent management.
Must-Haves
- 5-10 years of experience with large relational databases and large volumes of data of various formats.
- Undergraduate degree in Statistics/Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science, or a discipline that develops capability in data analytics and reporting.
- Solid automation and data modeling experience.
- Advanced SQL and Python programming skills.
- Talent Management process knowledge.
- Process knowledge including different testing tools, design techniques, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Systems knowledge including different programming languages, platforms, IT standards, and middleware technologies.
Nice-to-Haves
- Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, Snowflake).
- Knowledge of statistical procedures and applied data validation mechanisms.
- Strong knowledge of Dashboard Reporting methodology.
- Knowledge of business lines, business applications, and processes.
- Astute in selection and development of people and demonstrate good judgment, tact, and discretion.
