Trainmaster

Job Summary

The Trainmaster is a key role within CP, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of trains and rail yards. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of railway operations and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise train crews, yardmasters, and support staff to ensure safe and on-time operations
• Monitor and analyze safety, service, and productivity metrics to identify areas for improvement
• Investigate safety incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences
• Develop and implement plans to improve yard and road fluidity and productivity
• Manage a team of employees, including recruitment, development, and performance management
• Ensure compliance with CP's policies, collective agreements, and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with other departments to achieve business objectives and improve customer service
• Conduct investigations and provide recommendations to improve safety and operations
• Develop and implement plans to improve inventory management and rail car utilization
• Provide training and coaching to employees to enhance their skills and knowledge

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required; previous railway experience preferred
• Valid driver's license required
• Previous operations-related experience an asset
• Ability to understand and interpret railway operating protocols and safety procedures
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues
• Knowledge of railway safety regulations and procedures
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances
