POSITION SUMMARY

BDC serves as the Bank for Entrepreneurs. Our Advisory Services empower Canadian entrepreneurs to confidently navigate business challenges, enhance productivity, and achieve growth milestones. We provide entrepreneurs with reliable, objective guidance and expertise across a wide array of functional areas. We are currently seeking to broaden our expertise to encompass emerging technologies, assisting entrepreneurs in effectively utilizing data and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML).

The Senior Business Advisor will initially concentrate on aligning entrepreneurs' requirements concerning data and the adoption of AI/ML tools. This entails assessing and documenting the current state of data within SMEs, identifying applicable use cases for improved business data and AI/ML, and exploring existing off-the-shelf and custom solutions available to SMEs. The incumbent will also play a key role in raising SME awareness and knowledge regarding enhanced business data and AI/ML, which includes developing online training materials and facilitating workshops and training sessions. Over time, the (senior) BA will actively assist our business development team during client sales meetings (pre-sales) and oversee the execution of impactful client projects, utilizing the advisory services methodology they will have helped to create.

The role necessitates strong business insight and an understanding of the operational challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises across various sectors, as well as how improved utilization of operational data and AI/ML, including off-the-shelf commercial products, can be leveraged to tackle these challenges. Additionally, the role requires familiarity with various types of artificial intelligence models (e.g., rule-based algorithms, machine learning, deep learning, NLP, GenAI), as well as a comprehensive understanding of the artificial intelligence landscape across Canada. Finally, it demands exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to influence project outcomes in dynamic environments, strategic thinking, and robust project management capabilities.

KEY CHALLENGES

Serve as an internal subject matter expert within Advisory Services and lead the ML/AI Community of Practice. Spearhead the development of BDC's proprietary content (consulting solutions and educational materials) to assess needs, design, and deliver technology roadmaps in the data, business intelligence, and AI/ML domains, tailored to the realities and maturity of Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises. Provide knowledge and expertise on suitable business applications and related technologies and platforms for a diverse range of SME sizes and industries (e.g., manufacturing, construction, distribution, retail). Convey complex analytical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including support for internal and external marketing initiatives to promote our offerings. Stay abreast of trends in business intelligence, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, leveraging this knowledge to support our clients and enhance our solutions and tools. Collaborate closely with sales and project delivery teams to facilitate the transfer of technical and product knowledge, deliver projects, and secure new mandates.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, engineering with a focus on business or artificial intelligence, or commerce with a focus on business intelligence; an MBA or related professional designation is preferred. Proven success in scoping and supporting the development and implementation of ML/AI solutions as a consultant; experience with SMEs or off-the-shelf offerings (e.g., Shopify Magic & Sidekick, Intuit Assist, Zoho Zia, Salesforce Einstein, etc.) is a strong asset. 5 to 10 years of relevant experience. Proven experience with current and emerging platforms in the enterprise data, intelligent automation, and AI/ML space, including tools such as Python, SQL, PowerBI, and other data visualization tools, as well as existing generative AI (e.g., OpenAI, Bard, Copilot) services. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, and other analytical techniques is an asset. Considerable experience in developing and maintaining exceptional relationships with technology, business, and external stakeholders to translate the development of new technology from inception to production. Understanding of the business and operational challenges, processes, functional requirements, solutions, and capabilities for key industries (e.g., manufacturing, construction, wholesale/distribution, retail, professional services). Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with a proven ability to present as an expert on AI and related topics; bilingualism (French & English) is an asset. Willingness to travel to client sites within a limited geographic area, with occasional travel to other locations across Canada.
