- Develop Personalized Treatment Plans: Collaborate with patients to create tailored treatment plans that address their unique needs and goals.
- Order Diagnostic Tests and Procedures: Prescribe laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most effective course of treatment.
- Consult with Colleagues: Work with other healthcare professionals to evaluate patients' physical and mental health, and develop comprehensive care plans.
- Prescribe and Administer Medications: Safely prescribe and dispense medications, and provide patients with clear instructions on usage and potential side effects.
- Perform Routine Surgeries: Conduct routine surgical procedures, and assist in more complex operations as needed.
- Provide Preventative Care: Offer patients guidance on healthy habits, disease prevention, and wellness strategies.
- Supervise Staff: Lead and mentor healthcare staff, ensuring they provide high-quality patient care and adhere to established protocols.
- Report Health Data: Accurately record and report patient health data to relevant authorities, as required.
- Advocate for Patients: Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed in a timely and compassionate manner.
- Coordinate Patient Care: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care, from initial consultation to ongoing treatment and follow-up.
- Provide Emergency Care: Respond to emergency situations, providing timely and effective care to patients in crisis.
- Offer Counselling and Support: Provide patients and their families with emotional support, guidance, and resources to address a range of health and lifestyle issues.
- Supervise Home Care Services: Oversee home care services, ensuring patients receive the necessary support and care in the comfort of their own homes.
- Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry.
- Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years of experience in family medicine or a related field.
- Certifications: College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP), Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC), and licensure by provincial or territorial authorities.
