We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare, package, and dispense medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist
- Compound sterile and non-sterile dosage forms
- Dispense drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose
- Enter physician orders and work with automation systems
- Manage inventory and medication reconciliation
- Participate in quality programs and patient safety initiatives
- Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
- Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset
- Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
- Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
- Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
- Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control, and record keeping
- Demonstrated good decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
- Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
- Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
As a Registered Pharmacy Technician with Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment. Successful candidates may also be eligible for up to $10,000 signing bonus and up to $5,000 of relocation assistance with a defined Return of Service contract.
