Pharmacy Technician Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications to our patients.
Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager/Operations Manager, you will be responsible for preparing, packaging, and dispensing medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Your duties will include compounding of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose, physician order entry, working with automation, inventory control, medication reconciliation, and CIVA systems.
You will also be responsible for preparing chemotherapy doses, distributing narcotics, and participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.
About YouTo be successful in this role, you will need to have a graduate degree from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program and licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP). You will also need to have a drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, is an asset. You will also need to have knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy, as well as experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, and decentralized medication dispensing cabinets.
You will need to have demonstrated good decision-making and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications. You will also need to have knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs.
Hours and CompensationThis is a permanent part-time position, working 37.5 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate for this position is $26.97 - $28.97, with the possibility of eligibility for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
