Unit Overview:
The Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit is a specialized 12-bed unit dedicated to the care of patients undergoing cardiac surgical procedures, including Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, Valve Repair/Replacements, and Dissection Repairs.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or meet the eligibility criteria for registration in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO.
- Currently enrolled in a recognized Critical Care Certificate Program.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is mandatory.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required within six months of employment.
- Current Coronary Care Level 1 and 2 Certification is essential.
- Recent experience in Intensive Care nursing is preferred.
- Strong physical assessment skills are necessary.
- Ability to think critically and prioritize effectively in emergency situations.
- Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills, along with strong interpersonal and communication abilities, both verbal and written.
- Proven leadership and assessment capabilities.
- A history of ongoing professional development and self-directed learning, evidenced by continuous education.
- Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and a commitment to customer service and teamwork.
- Experience in patient education and effectively communicating expected outcomes and care plans.
- A positive attendance and work record is essential.
