The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is dedicated to enhancing the delivery of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services. Position OverviewUnder the general supervision of the Charge Technologist or designate, the Laboratory Support Technician is tasked with aiding the laboratory in sample triaging, accessioning, and processing of specimens. This role may also involve performing basic routine procedures in accordance with established protocols. The technician will conduct phlebotomies as per departmental policy, ensuring a safe environment in line with professional and provincial guidelines. Compliance with quality assurance programs and maintaining standards set by Accreditation is essential. All functions will be executed in alignment with the Mission and Values of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, current policies, and applicable legislation.
Experience- Prior related experience is preferred.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, Manitoba Standards, is required.
- Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program is preferred.
- Certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a Medical Laboratory Assistant is preferred.
- Proficiency in a Windows computer environment is required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Understanding of sterile techniques and routine practices is preferred.
- Key-boarding skills of 50 – 55 wpm are an asset.
- Ability to apply basic math concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
- Capability to follow oral and written instructions precisely with attention to detail.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English are required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Maintaining confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position is essential.
- Fluency in both French and English may be required.
- Ability to perform the duties as described.
