Main Purpose and Function

The City of Vancouver is seeking a skilled Urban Planner to provide professional services to support a wide range of projects in the Employment Lands Planning Team; Citywide and Regional Planning. The successful candidate will lead the Railtown Industrial Area Zoning Review and be responsible for reviewing rezoning and development applications on behalf of the Employment Lands Planning Team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage project work plans related to community planning policy and programs, ensuring timely delivery of results.
  • Implement comprehensive project management and public engagement initiatives, fostering collaboration with stakeholders and the community.
  • Conduct policy research, data analysis, and Council report writing to inform urban planning decisions.
  • Facilitate meetings and present to staff, management, external stakeholders, and City Council, effectively communicating complex issues.
  • Supervise staff and consultants, providing guidance and support to ensure project success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the Planning, Urban Design & Sustainability team.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A university degree in a related field, such as Community Planning, Public Policy, Economics, or Business Administration, and several years of professional experience in urban planning.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is desired.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders involved in local economic development.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to interpret and apply city policy, by-laws, and the Vancouver Charter.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment in managing workload and shifting priorities while delivering complex projects on time and on budget.
