About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Art Director to join our team at Ubisoft Toronto. As a Technical Art Director, you will be responsible for providing expert insight, tools, and support to steer a game and its creators towards success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Core Team Members: Work closely with other directors to develop the overall vision and determine technical feasibility.
  • Risk Analysis: Identify and analyze risks related to engine, data, features, and other technical aspects.
  • Tool Development: Assess existing tools and design custom ones to support art pipelines and workflows, ensuring the vision is sustained.
  • Technical Leadership: Meet with technical artists and assistant technical art directors to share information, enforce standards, set benchmarks, provide feedback, and resolve complex issues.
  • Post-Mortem Analysis: Prepare post-mortems and recommend ways to evolve how we create and integrate graphic data.
  • Technological Advancements: Anticipate technological advancements and stay up-to-date on market trends to define best practices and share them with our studios and the industry.
  • Talent Acquisition: Participate in recruitment to build the technical art team and foster their growth.
Requirements
  • UI, Technical Art, or Programming Experience: UI, technical art, or programming experience, or other related experience, plus leadership experience.
  • Graphics/UI Libraries: Solid understanding of graphics/UI libraries (such as NGUI and React Native) and Unity and their limitations.
  • Game Engines: In-depth knowledge of game engines (e.g. Unity or Unreal) and their limitations, 2D art tools (e.g. Photoshop), 3D software (3DS Max, Maya, and Substance Painter), and an understanding of scripting languages (e.g. C#, Python, JavaScript, MaxScript).
  • Bug Tracking and Version Management: Familiarity with bug tracking software (e.g. Jira) and version management systems (e.g. Perforce).
  • Soft Skills: Highly innovative, collaborative, empathetic, and solution-oriented spirit, excellent communication, interpersonal, mentorship, and presentation skills, critical thinking, time management, and organizational capabilities, attention to detail, curiosity, resourcefulness, and plenty of flexibility.
