The Town of Okotoks is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to succeed the current leader who is retiring. This pivotal role requires a strategic partner who will provide comprehensive financial leadership and guidance to align with the organization's goals and priorities.

The CFO will serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT), and the Council on all financial matters. This position is responsible for overseeing the budget process, long-term financial planning, reporting obligations, risk management, and the establishment of effective control systems.

In addition, the CFO will lead all financial and accounting operations, including budget management, financial analysis, forecasting, sustainability initiatives, and reporting. The ideal candidate will be a finance expert who can connect financial strategies to the broader organizational vision and assist the Strategic Leadership Team in crafting a financial narrative that resonates with the Council and the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning & Management: Collaborate with the Council and SLT to provide strategic financial direction and participate in key decision-making processes.
  • Financial Planning & Budgeting: Develop and oversee the municipal budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and priorities.
  • Policy Development: Offer financial insights to support policy creation and strategic planning.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure compliance with government accounting standards and transparent financial reporting.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks to the organization.
  • Team Leadership: Foster a positive corporate culture and lead the development of financial talent within the organization.

The successful candidate will possess a Master's degree in business with a focus on Finance or Accounting, alongside a minimum of ten years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles, preferably within the public sector. Experience with strategic planning and business processes is essential.
