McMaster Children's Hospital, one of Canada's largest pediatric facilities, is renowned for its advanced emergency and intensive care services tailored specifically for children. Our comprehensive programs address a variety of pediatric health concerns, including mental health and complex medical conditions.
Position Overview
The Eating Disorder Program at McMaster Children's Hospital provides specialized clinical services for children and adolescents facing eating disorders. This program encompasses outpatient, day treatment, and inpatient care, with a dedicated inpatient unit featuring 8 beds and 4 day treatment spots. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, physicians, dietitians, social workers, psychologists, and other specialists, all within a family-centered care framework.
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a pivotal role within this interdisciplinary team, delivering care to young patients with intricate mental health and medical challenges associated with various eating disorders. The RN is expected to possess a strong foundation in mental health assessment, therapeutic relationship building, and the implementation of appropriate interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to children and adolescents with eating disorders.
- Engage in effective communication with patients, families, and team members.
- Participate in clinical rounds and contribute to group therapy sessions.
- Deliver health education to patients and families regarding medical and psychological aspects of eating disorders.
- Collaborate with community resources and manage patient safety concerns.
Qualifications
- Valid Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
- Current Canadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing certification.
- A minimum of 3 years of recent experience in a tertiary care setting focused on children and adolescents with eating disorders.
- Proficiency in mental health legislation and crisis management.
- Demonstrated expertise in therapeutic communication and teamwork.
