This role is designated for our Extendicare Van Daele, situated in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, assess, and refine both individual and group activity programs tailored to the identified needs under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Prepare and tidy the activity space as required and assist in transporting residents to and from various programs.
  • Observe and report on the behavior and condition of residents during activities, notifying the Supervisor and nursing staff of any notable changes.
  • Maintain accurate records of programs and resident participation in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Recreation and Leisure Services or Gerontology Diploma/Degree program from a recognized post-secondary institution equivalent to Ontario standards, or
  • Relevant skills and experience in a healthcare or similar environment.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in individual/group program development, care planning, resident evaluations, and implementation for the geriatric demographic, particularly those with cognitive impairments.
  • Experience working with older adults is advantageous.
  • Strong customer service and resident interaction skills.
  • Background in a fast-paced customer service environment is beneficial.
  • Flexibility and eagerness to learn new responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and following instructions in English (additional languages are a plus).
