Position Overview:
WSP is seeking a Rail Systems Integration Manager to enhance our Rail and Transit division. This role will report to the Systems Integration and Commissioning Manager and will require close cooperation with Chief Engineers and Specialists across various rail and transit sectors, including Systems Engineering, Signals, Electrification Systems, and Data Communications.
Relocation assistance may be available.
As a vital contributor to the Rail & Transit division, you will utilize your versatile skill set to develop processes, create execution strategies, and act as the technical authority on selected projects. Our leadership team is dedicated to equipping you with the necessary guidance and resources to advance your project management and leadership capabilities, positioning you for success in the consulting field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Rail & Transit division in formulating Systems Integration Plans, Systems Engineering Management Plans, Systems Integration Matrices, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Conduct functional analyses, develop Systems Breakdown Structures, functional block diagrams, Systems Architectures, and sequence diagrams.
- Foster teamwork and engage with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure comprehensive coverage of all Stakeholder and PA requirements in design.
- Lead and facilitate discussions with designers and clients regarding system interfaces for intricate Rail & Transit projects.
- Ensure that Validation and Verification processes are thoroughly defined to confirm that all requirements are met.
- Prepare proposal evaluations, technical documentation, cost assessments, detailed analyses, design justifications, and other materials relevant to various Rail & Transit initiatives.
- Verify that all design components comply with relevant Rail Operation Rules, applicable industry codes and standards, and client expectations.
- Engage with clients to discuss technical matters clearly and professionally, facilitating the resolution of customer expectations versus technical challenges.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to junior team members to enhance their technical expertise.
- Manage tight deadlines, demonstrate flexibility, oversee project budgets, and inspire junior staff.
- Plan and execute project tasks based on a thorough understanding of project scope, timelines, and financial parameters.
- Project assignments may encompass Commuter, Subway, Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Transit Storage and Maintenance Facilities, Transit Tunnels, and other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- University or Postgraduate degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
- Registered as a P. Eng with a recognized institution or eligible for registration.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in transit, safety-critical industries, or related engineering fields.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong understanding of Systems Engineering processes and principles.
- Experience across various phases of the Engineering Design Life Cycle (Proposal, CDR, PDR, FDR) and familiarity with Systems Engineering standards such as ISO/IEC 15288 and IEEE 1220.
- Knowledge in project risk identification and management.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and across diverse business units.
- Familiarity with signaling principles, train control solutions including ETCS and PTC, and railway standards such as CENELEC, AREMA, and MIL-STD.
- Basic understanding of Civil design, signaling principles, SCADA, Communications, Trackwork, Systems Assurance (RAM), Safety Assurance, Vehicle and Wayside Interfaces, Traction Power Design, Power Supply and Distribution, Mechanical Systems, and Train Simulation.
- Experience in Verification and Validation processes (test plans, test cases, FAT, SAT, PICO) is advantageous.
- Understanding of System Safety Certification processes and RAMS is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Requirements Management (RM) and the use of RM tools such as IBM Rational DOORS is a plus.
Additional Skills:
- INCOSE Certification such as ASEP or CSEP is a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the Systems Engineering domain is preferred.
- Prior experience in Systems Integration for complex Rail & Transit projects is an asset.
- Experience in a Consulting Engineering environment is beneficial.
- Strong proficiency in computer applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio.
- Able to travel domestically or internationally to support project needs.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex technical challenges and devise effective solutions, identifying potential issues with rail system interfaces and proposing strategies to mitigate them.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborating effectively with peers.
- Project Management Skills: Proficient in managing complex projects, prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and working efficiently under pressure.
