About the Role
JSI is seeking a highly skilled Technical Documentation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our documentation team, you will be responsible for creating, validating, and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation for our engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including deployment guides, upgrade procedures, system manuals, how-to guides, knowledge base articles, and troubleshooting guides.
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts to gather information, compile, develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
- Work closely with development and support leads to ensure documentation meets corporate standards and norms.
- Develop and implement documentation templates and styles guides to improve content quality and consistency.
- Assume ownership of deployments and upgrades documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Evaluate current content and develop innovative methods for improvement, including style guides, content templates, and best practices.
- Act as a user advocate, providing a consistent voice across all documentation.
Requirements
- 4-7 years of experience as an effective technical writer.
- Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter.
- Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences.
- Experience performing software deploys and troubleshooting skills are a plus.
- Superb written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Experience working with engineers to disseminate, write, and validate procedural content.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Curious and have a learning mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in technology, communications, or a relevant technical field.
- Firm understanding of SDLC (systems development lifecycle).
- Experience in software development or QA.
- Professional certification (e.g., Society for Technical Communication).
- Experience with document encoding (XML, markdown, JSON, YAML).
- Experience with content management tools (SharePoint, Confluence).
- Experience with configuration management tools (JIRA, TFS).
- Experience with source control tools (Git) is a plus.
- Experience working in an agile development environment.
- Project management experience is an asset.
- DevOps, Virtualization, Linux, Kubernetes, Containers are a big plus.
