Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a motivated, strategic, and results-oriented individual to join our team as a Financial Management Analyst. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and requires a comprehensive understanding of financial management systems, programs, and practices.

In this position, you will report to the Finance Controller and will be responsible for conducting monthly budget-to-actual and forecast reporting, including variance analysis for consolidated financials. You will also maintain essential information within OPG's financial systems and provide economic and financial analysis on an ad-hoc basis.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Formulates, recommends, and oversees adherence to financial strategies, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  2. Engages in the development, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and procedures.
  3. Offers leadership to management in specialized financial management areas and independently resolves implementation and technical issues.
  4. Supports the manager in ensuring due diligence through a professional challenge role within the organization.
  5. Provides advice and guidance to line management, exercising professional and independent financial judgment.
  6. Assists in formulating strategies, policies, procedures, and guidelines through research, analysis, and stakeholder input.
  7. Maintains professional awareness of current accounting practices, GAAP, and the general business environment, particularly within the utility sector, and communicates relevant impacts and implications.
  8. Conducts investigations into specialized accounting areas or needs and develops procedures to address issues.
  9. Reviews accounting practices and assesses the accuracy, consistency, and appropriateness of analyses and conclusions.
  10. Generates management reports utilizing financial systems and other relevant inputs.
  11. Ensures the integrity of the decision support process by supporting the preparation and review of business case summaries.
  12. Participates in the development and implementation of financial information systems and procedures.
  13. Maintains and supports in-service financial systems.
  14. Analyzes operating and maintenance costs of systems and recommends improvements for efficiency.
  15. Provides guidance and assistance to systems users regarding management system development, operation, and maintenance.
Education

4-Year University Degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.

Qualifications
  1. 4 years of relevant work experience.
  2. CPA designation is an asset.
  3. Familiarity with financial analysis, controllership, and financial systems.
  4. Knowledge to support the development of financial strategies, policies, and procedures.
  5. Exposure to financial reporting and management reporting.
  6. Ability to operate effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Sound judgment, decision-making, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving abilities.
  9. Ability to work efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
