Job Description

Job Title: APTPUO - Fall 2024 - THE 4110A Career Management

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly qualified individual to teach a course on career management in theatre at the University of Ottawa. The successful candidate will have a strong background in theatre studies and professional experience as an artistic or administrative director of a theatre company, festival, or educational organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a course on career management in theatre, including budget creation, collective agreement negotiation, performer contracts, tax rules for self-employed artists, grant writing, self-production, and current knowledge of Canadian theatre companies, associations, and artists.
  • Teach students the skills and knowledge needed to manage a professional career in theatre, including developing a career plan, managing legal and financial affairs, and writing successful applications for arts funding.
  • Provide guidance and support to students as they develop their career plans and navigate the theatre industry.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in theatre studies or professional theatre school diploma.
  • Five years of professional experience as the artistic or administrative director of a theatre company, festival, or educational organization.
  • Teaching experience at the university or conservatory level.
  • Thorough knowledge of career management in theatre, including budget creation, collective agreement negotiation, performer contracts, tax rules for self-employed artists, grant writing, self-production, and current knowledge of Canadian theatre companies, associations, and artists.
