Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems at high voltage substations.
- Execute hands-on protective relay testing on-site using relay test equipment such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150, including relays like SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, and GE D60.
- Engage in Technical and Safety Development initiatives.
- Assist the Project Lead or Field Supervisor in project execution.
- Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
- Document test results accurately and generate field reports in the required format.
- Develop and implement comprehensive test plans.
- Interpret and analyze electrical drawings and schematics.
- Manage clerical tasks including time cards, expense reports, and project documentation.
- The successful candidate will lead testing and commissioning efforts for electrical protection systems serving power utilities, renewable energy sources, and independent power producers.
- Expect domestic travel of 85% or more, with potential international travel opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical abilities and proficiency in mathematical calculations, alongside a working knowledge of computer systems and relay software.
- Proficient in administrative software including MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in managing electrical schematics.
- Ability to meet minimum insurability standards based on a Motor Vehicle Report.
- Capability to pass drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to successfully complete a seven (7) year background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NICET or NETA II/III certification.
- Over 3 years of experience in SCADA/Automation systems, preferably within the power utility sector.
- Experience in testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays.
- Background in testing and commissioning electrical equipment at high voltage substations, including CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems, including batteries and chargers.
- Familiarity with various vendors' RTUs/communication processors, HMIs, and networking equipment is preferred.
- Knowledge of networking, power systems, SCADA communication protocols, and control systems, with proven troubleshooting capabilities for complex systems.
- Demonstrated experience in SCADA system design, communication design, and construction specifications related to SCADA/Automation systems.
- Expertise in transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes. Technical skills in protective relays include relay calibration using test sets and measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, and testing of sensing CT/PT circuits.
- Ideal candidates will have over 3 years of professional experience in the electrical testing sector, including medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
- Proven experience with Electrical Field Testing standards, practices, and procedures such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards.
- Demonstrable knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakers.
- Expertise in using advanced computer-controlled solid-state test equipment (Automated protective relay test equipment such as Omicron or Doble).
- Proficient in technical software for testing and data review, including ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset.
