Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Associate Physician to join our Acute Care Surgery team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team, and contribute to the development of our surgical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care under the supervision of the Most Responsible Provider (MRP) and work collaboratively with the MRP, Residents, Fellows, nursing, medical students, and allied healthcare providers.
  • Assess the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders, consultation with other services, and responding to changing patient conditions in consultation with the attending physician.
  • Develop treatment plans in response to changing patient conditions and follow through on investigations in consultation with the attending physician.
  • Perform medical surgical consultations for in-patients and patients referred to the emergency room (ER) in consultation with the attending physician.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and other consulting services concerning care plans as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Medical degree from a school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Minimum of two years of accredited postgraduate training as a medical or surgical specialist, verified by the CPSBC.
  • Successful completion of Part 1 of the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) or Steps 1 through 3 of the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs).
  • Must meet the CPSBC's English language proficiency requirements.
  • Eligible for registration with the CPSBC in the Associate Physician class, under sponsorship by Fraser Health Authority.

Professional/Technical Capabilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage common medical problems, such as: chest pain, dyspnea, hypertension, electrolyte abnormalities, pain control, delirium.
  • Confidence and experience recognizing and initiating response to emergency situations, such as: shock, acute coronary syndrome, stroke.
  • Ability to recognize medical instability and address initial priorities of resuscitation.
  • Ability to judge situations where discussion and reporting to senior and most responsible physicians is appropriate.
