About the Role

The Faculty of Commerce & Business Administration at Douglas College is seeking a highly qualified Business Law instructor to join our team as a Probationary Regular Business Law Faculty Member. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to teach and mentor students in the field of business law.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruct students in business law courses, including Introductory Business Law (BLAW 1320) and other specialized courses such as Fundamentals of International Trade Law, Sales and Marketing Law, and Corporate and Financial Planning Law.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, assessments, and evaluations to ensure student success.
  • Provide academic advice and support to students, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum, assessments, and other educational initiatives.
  • Stay current with developments in business law and incorporate relevant industry trends and best practices into teaching and learning.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications outlined below:

Stream 'A' Applicants
  • Hold a LLB or JD degree, plus an MBA or Master's degree in a related field, or be ABD or PhD in the discipline.
  • Have a combination of three years of working experience and/or teaching experience related to business law.
  • Be a member of the Law Society of BC.
Stream 'B' Applicants
  • Hold a LLB or JD degree.
  • Have a combination of five years of working experience and/or teaching experience related to business law.
  • Be a member of the Law Society of BC.
Additional Requirements
  • Demonstrate a high level of legal knowledge obtained through education or career background.
  • Hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB or JD) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Demonstrate an excellent ability to teach business law topics at the post-secondary level.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Have working knowledge of computer applications and educational technologies.
  • Previous teaching experience is considered an asset.
