Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health Practitioner to join our team at Halifax Regional Municipality. As an Occupational Health Practitioner, you will play a critical role in promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment for our employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive work connectedness strategy to promote physical and mental health abilities among employees.
  • Collaborate with HRM Health and Safety teams to identify injury prevention opportunities and provide support for employees returning to work after extended absences.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to employees and business unit leadership on work connectedness practices and promote early intervention best practices.
  • Support temporary and permanent work accommodations and champion health and wellness programs and benefits provided by Halifax Regional Municipality.
  • Develop and maintain reports and metrics to assess outcomes and maintain job site analyses for HRM business units.
  • Consult with Human Resources Business Partners, Health Specialists, and Business Unit Managers to establish and maintain standards, goals, and objectives for service provisions.
  • Participate in business planning for the HR Business Unit and assist in the development of standardized work procedures.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in occupational health nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or related field.
  • Accredited certification in one of the following: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN), Occupational Therapist (OT).
  • Five (5) years of experience in an occupational health background.
  • Experience with disability case management, physical demands analysis, functional capacity evaluations, job safety analysis, and ergonomic assessment tools.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing Stay at Work/Return to Work philosophies and interacting with the Workers' Compensation Board of Nova Scotia and Long-Term Disability programs.
  • Experience working in a diverse and decentralized organization, ideally in the public sector.

Work Status and Location

Full-time, Permanent position with a salary range of $88,690 - $114,770. Work location: 8th Floor, Purdy's Wharf Tower 2, Halifax.
