About the Role:

The Autism Support Associate will play a vital role in ensuring that individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) receive high-quality support that enhances their quality of life. This position requires a strong understanding of ASD and the unique support requirements of individuals with this diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary liaison with family, medical, educational, leisure, and recreational contacts to ensure seamless support.
  • Provide coaching and support in social skills, communication, and leisure activities to promote independence and self-advocacy.
  • Identify and address barriers that impact the achievement of quality of life outcomes for individuals with ASD.
  • Administer medication as per procedure and follow established Behavioural and Crisis Protocols.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, supports, and community members to ensure a collaborative approach to support.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to other employees to continuously improve the quality of service and work environment.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
  • Completion of a Human Services Diploma from a recognized Community College or University, or a Personal Support Worker certificate from a Community College or a registered and Ministry-approved Private Career College, with 1 year of related experience (preferably supporting individuals with ASD); OR
  • Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 5 years of related experience (preferably supporting individuals with ASD).
Knowledge Requirements:
  • Solid understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the unique support requirements of individuals with this diagnosis.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to physically support adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Ability to complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification and perform required physical techniques.
  • Valid Driver's License with a minimum G2 and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Proof of third-party liability insurance coverage.
