Photonics Systems Architect

At Lightmatter, we are pioneering the development of chips that facilitate advanced artificial intelligence computing clusters. We are in search of a Photonics Systems Architect who will collaborate with both external teams and internal engineering groups to bring innovative products to market. In this position, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of cutting-edge photonics architecture solutions aimed at delivering high-volume products to our clientele. Your responsibilities will include engaging with our diverse engineering teams to model and analyze solutions, as well as testing and validating prototypes to ensure they meet our rigorous standards. A solid understanding of state-of-the-art CMOS technology, advanced silicon photonics, high-speed electro-optic interfaces (40+ GHz), and 3D integration is essential. Creativity, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills are key attributes for success in this role. You may also represent Lightmatter at technical conferences, showcasing our commitment to technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Innovative problem-solving and development of high-performance electro-optic architecture solutions for mass production.
  • Conduct electro-optic modeling utilizing tools such as Verilog-A, Cadence Spectre, Cadence Virtuoso, and Keysight ADS.
  • Design experiments to validate models, conduct proof-of-concept studies, and analyze existing data.
  • Work closely with electronics and photonics engineers to specify, design, and validate circuits that fulfill performance, power, and production criteria.
  • Document and communicate your contributions effectively.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in silicon photonics electronic-photonic co-design and co-simulation.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with silicon photonic high-speed optical modulators and receivers.
  • Proficiency in Cadence Virtuoso, Cadence Spectre, Verilog-A, and Keysight ADS.
  • Strong coding skills in Python or Matlab for simulations.
  • Experience in RF/mm-wave analog circuit design.
  • Familiarity with modeling optical communication links.
  • Experience with corner analysis and Monte Carlo analysis.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with photonics and electronics teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in product development or industry-related projects.
  • Hands-on experience with silicon photonic integrated circuit design and testing.
  • Expertise in high-speed electro-optic measurement techniques.
  • Knowledge of signal processing and signal integrity in optical communications.
  • Familiarity with SERDES and mixed-signal interfaces.
  • A strong publication record.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive learner with a versatile approach to tasks.
