About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Learning Disabilities Consultant to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will lead the implementation of the Learning Disabilities Framework, promoting increased student literacy and numeracy achievement and enhanced well-being for students in Nova Scotia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with regional/board teams, including Learning Support teachers, School Psychologists, and EECD colleagues, to promote and enhance access to culturally and linguistically-responsive instructional practices.
  • Develop and implement research-proven resources, initiatives, and training opportunities as part of the provincial LD framework.
  • Examine academic, behavioural, attentional, organizational, social-emotional, and psychosocial features of learning difficulties and learning disabilities.
  • Assist in implementing and monitoring various initiatives in the areas of Literacy/Math/Behavior strategies, School Psychology, and the Tuition Support Program.
  • Perform administrative duties and related procedures, including researching, reviewing, and maintaining data, correspondence, reporting, and carrying out other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A Master Degree in Education plus eight years related experience, preferably with a focus on Diverse Learners, School Psychology, Literacy, or equivalent.
  • OR A Bachelor of Education Degree or eligibility to be certified through the Nova Scotia Office of Teacher Certification.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of successful and recent school-based experience in the field of learning disabilities, with a focus on Learning Disabilities or Educational Psychology, or equivalent.
  • Experience in an education leadership role (coach/mentor, consultant, coordinator, school administration, or equivalent) is required.
  • Required experience includes working with teachers and school board staff in the public school system in the areas of human rights education, cultural proficiency, and culturally responsive teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of Nova Scotia Curriculum, prevention, and intervention of learning disabilities and disorders.
  • Skill and ability in the use of technology, including assistive technology and augmentative alternative communication tools to support student well-being and achievement.
  • Credentials in project management and program evaluation experience.
  • Bilingualism (fluent in French and English).
