Position Overview
As a key player in our team, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for steering mechanical engineering initiatives within the Minerals and Metals sector. This role is pivotal in ensuring that engineering designs meet stringent standards and timelines while providing high-level technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee mechanical engineering design processes, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards by supervising the engineering team and reviewing deliverables.
- Assist in the procurement of essential equipment by defining specifications and collaborating with procurement teams.
- Manage the mechanical engineering budget effectively, reviewing and approving cost estimates while suggesting alternative strategies to enhance cost-efficiency.
- Lead mechanical efforts on significant projects, coordinating engineers and designers, managing project timelines and budgets, and reporting on mechanical progress to stakeholders.
- Provide expertise in the development and assessment of mechanical contracts, offering insights and recommendations as necessary.
- Generate and issue engineering drawings and deliverables for construction, collaborating closely with design teams.
- Encourage high performance among engineers and project team members through mentorship and support.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Ontario is required.
- Extensive experience in the Minerals & Metals industry is essential; experience in Oil & Gas is advantageous.
- Proven track record in mechanical design engineering within relevant sectors such as mining, mineral processing, or materials handling, particularly with gold and copper.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address technical challenges efficiently using personal expertise and collaboration with external consultants.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, 3D modeling software, and MS Office applications.
- Understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering principles.
- Dedication to mentoring and developing team members.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and influence colleagues at all levels.
- Excellent analytical capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective time management and task prioritization skills for the design team.
