Job Summary

Westlake Paving & Aggregates, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team in the Okanagan Valley. As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of our heavy equipment and paving machinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, and pavers.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential problems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and other components of heavy equipment.
  • Replace faulty or worn-out parts and components using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Follow manufacturer specifications, repair manuals, and technical guidelines during repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and equipment operators to identify equipment issues and provide guidance on preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols during all maintenance and repair activities.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Journeyperson or Red Seal certification as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.
  • Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other heavy equipment components.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with team members and equipment operators.
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks that may involve heavy lifting and working in various weather conditions.

Rate of Pay

  • Journeyperson/Red Seal: $39.20/hour.
  • Apprentice level 4: 95% of Journeyperson/Red Seal rate.
  • Apprentice level 3: 90% of Journeyperson/Red Seal rate.
  • Apprentice level 2: 85% of Journeyperson/Red Seal rate.
  • Apprentice level 1: 80% of Journeyperson/Red Seal rate.

Additional duties may be assigned as needed, and flexibility in work hours may be required based on project demands.
