The Welding Technician plays a crucial role in executing various welding methods to assemble and create metal components. This position demands a focus on the quality and accuracy of welds while strictly following safety protocols and company standards. The Welding Technician will be instrumental in the successful execution of welding projects, ensuring the durability and performance of the final products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute all on-site welding tasks, including in-service, fabrication, and repair welding, in accordance with engineering designs and specifications.
  • Provide welding support during emergency situations as necessary.
  • Oversee and inspect contractors for activities related to ground disturbance, pipeline repairs, and mechanical services.
  • Maintain precise records of welding parameters, inspection documentation, and any discrepancies encountered during welding operations. Collaborate with the engineering team to refine and enhance welding procedures as required.
  • Strictly adhere to safety protocols during all welding activities. Ensure adequate ventilation, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with both company and industry safety regulations. Maintain and re-certify welding and specialized equipment to meet company standards and industry requirements, as well as conduct welding for weld procedure qualifications (WPQ).
  • Carry out the installation of pressure-containing, pipe compression, and composite repair sleeves. Operate and maintain specialized pipeline equipment such as Split Frame Rotary Cutters, End Mill Cold-Cutters, Large Bore Hot Tap Machines, and Mobile Transfer Pump Units.
  • Regularly assess welds for defects, compliance with quality standards, and structural integrity. Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) and visual inspections to identify and address any welding issues. Consistently inspect and maintain welding equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Promptly report any malfunctions or safety concerns.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in maintaining and executing in-service welding procedures within the oil and gas sector.
  • Possession of an Alberta Grade B Pressure Welder Certificate of Competency, with interprovincial designation, or a Technical Safety BC Pressure Welder Certificate of Recognition with interprovincial designation.

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with Pipeline Maintenance Skill Block Competencies as outlined in the TMCI Training Program, including experience in pipeline construction and right-of-way maintenance.
  • Certification as a Canadian Standards Association W178.2 Welding Inspector Certified Level I, including relevant code endorsements, or American Welding Society QC1 Certification for Welding Inspectors (CWI), including applicable code endorsements.
