Position Overview

The On-Call Cashier is responsible for performing essential clerical and cashier tasks, which include handling payments, processing various transactions, and delivering outstanding customer service to all stakeholders consistently.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Transaction Management:
    • Processes all sales, refunds, in-house charges, and sponsorship transactions.
    • Accurately receives, counts, and verifies payment and sponsorship documents.
    • Handles purchase orders and distance education orders efficiently.
    • Evaluates merchandise returns and issues refunds or exchanges as necessary.
    • Maintains organized records of related materials, such as invoices.
  2. Inventory Management:
    • Assists customers in finding and selecting merchandise.
    • Labels, stocks, organizes, and displays inventory effectively.
    • Unpacks and restocks merchandise and textbooks promptly upon arrival.
    • Maintains vigilance for security and inventory protection.
  3. Additional Duties:
    • Accurately picks and processes online orders.
    • Responds to inquiries in person and over the phone, providing information or referrals as needed.
    • Sorts and distributes bookstore correspondence.

Qualifications for Success

  • Proficient in the English language, both written and verbal.
  • At least one year of experience in a college bookstore or similar retail environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact courteously with students, faculty, and the public.
  • Ability to operate a multi-category register and accurately process transactions.
  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Capable of working independently under pressure while prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Flexible availability during peak periods of the academic semester.
