Service Worker/Caretaking Specialist

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Service Worker/Caretaking Specialist to join our team at the University of Toronto. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of our buildings and grounds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean and dust furniture, floors, hallways, stairways, and ledges using authorized and appropriate materials and equipment.
- Recondition floors as required, including stripping, refinishing, scrubbing, spray buffing, buffing, sealing, and other related floor care duties.
- Clean washrooms, including sinks, walls, and partitions, toilets, urinals, mirrors, floors, metal fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and faucets.
- Collect litter from floors and waste/compost from receptacles, emptying into janitor carts, and removing garbage/recycling from buildings and depositing into waste bins or compactors.
- Clean carpets as required and remove spots/stains from surfaces as needed.
- Wash windows and walls, including partition glass.
- Move and reset furniture when necessary to complete work.
- Make beds for residence guests in residence operations when necessary.
- Clean blackboards, whiteboards, and other writing surfaces as directed and replenish supplies as required.
- Replenish paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and sanitizers to receptacles within washrooms and utility kitchens and other areas as required.
- Change light bulbs and clean fixtures as required.
- Clear exterior entrance ways of buildings of debris and garbage.
- Clean exterior entrance pads and podiums using power washing equipment.
- Assist in snow removal when necessary.
- May periodically assist with set-ups for special events and exams.
- Clean escalators and elevator interior and exterior.
- Lock and unlock doors as directed.
Requirements:
- Completion of tenth grade or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of related work experience is desirable.
- Physical ability to perform duties described and to use indicated equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written).
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM.
Employee Group: Hourly/CUPE L3261.
Appointment Type: Budget - Continuing.
Schedule: Full-Time.
Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: JOB PAY RATE -- $25.50.
Job Category: Facilities/Ancillary Services.
