The City of Markham is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Educational Program Instructor to join our team at the Varley Art Gallery of Markham. As a key member of our Education Department, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality educational programs to students in grades JK to 12, facilitating exhibition tours, and art activities in the studio.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver educational programs that meet the needs of our diverse audience, adhering to all City of Markham expectations, policies, and procedures.
- Research gallery exhibitions and exhibiting artists to supplement training packages, customizing and adapting programs as needed.
- Prioritize safety and ensure the studio, equipment, and supplies are appropriate to the group, activity, and environment.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, teachers, staff, and volunteers, providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain studio cleanliness and art supply inventory, and reference studio etiquette booklet each shift.
- Travel to outreach programs as required.
- Complete timecard entry in a timely manner.
- Collect feedback, review procedures, and recommend ways to improve programs and departments.
- Advise the Program Coordinator of any customer service issues, complaints, or inquiries.
- Other programming-related activities as assigned.
- Post-secondary education in art, art history, or a related field (visual art, education, arts administration, community arts programming preferred).
- Pursuing a Teaching Certificate in an arts-related field is an asset.
- One to two years' experience developing and facilitating arts programming in a gallery or museum setting.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Arts Curriculum is an asset.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office 365 (an asset).
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certificate as recognized by the WSIB (mandatory).
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) (mandatory).
- Service Excellence: Meets or exceeds service standards when interacting with customers in the community and in the organization.
