Job Summary

The Senior Estimator will manage multiple tenders and be responsible for all aspects of the estimate and prepare for closing. This role requires a strong understanding of construction methods, industry practices, and estimating/budgeting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze project plans and specifications to identify divisions of work and potential risks.
  • Study plans and specifications to clarify location and document discrepancies, and confirm site visits as necessary.
  • Organize and prepare plans and specifications for display, distribution, and posting on the company website.
  • Complete pre-bid forms and set up summary sheets, and fill out bonding and insurance requests and submissions.
  • Prepare sub-trade request lists for estimating assistants and solicit bidders as needed.
  • Listing of special materials and calling for prices, and dealing with RFI's internally and from sub-trades.
  • This position requires a good understanding of division and division 3 scope of work and estimating, as well as the ability to read and understand soils and designated substance reports.
  • The ability to conduct a cut and fill take-off, excavation backfill, site servicing, and formwork and concrete quantities and pricing are a must.
  • Ability to work on unit-rate tenders and perform take-offs in direct relation to the units.
  • Ability to attend site visits, take pictures, notes, and interact with owners and consultants.
  • Ability to build a preliminary tender schedule based on major and long delivery dates and review with the construction department.
  • Preparation of the closing sheet, and ability to identify risk or opportunity avenues.
  • Preparation of the tender form in advance, and the ability to close a division or more during a tender.
  • The ability to perform Class D, C, B, and A budgets and interact with clients.

Requirements

  • Engineering or construction management degree, technical college diploma, or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • At least 5+ years of preconstruction/estimating experience on large-scale projects (preferably ICI focus).
  • Proven experience estimating on multiple high-value projects.
  • Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Project.
  • The proven ability to successfully manage a tender call.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling, and safety requirements.
  • Analytical and strong problem-solving ability.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with an excellent attitude and initiative.
